“Desperation brought us to seek the services of HHTC. My son was extremely violent, screaming and uncontrollable. The Board of Developmental Disabilities of Williams County, Ohio recommended we try equine therapy at Haven Hills Therapy Center. We have seen HUGE changes! After his lessons, he is calmer and it lasts throughout the week. At HHTC, they introduced him to signing as a way for him to communicate. He has been talking/signing words again and has stopped screaming in frustration because he now feels heard.
It has impacted the whole family. My mother, who is a frail woman, has been able to interact with him again because he now listens and interacts in a much more polite manner. If we could share anything with people about HHTC it would be to simply say that, IT WORKS! It has built confidence and willingness in him that has extended to other environments. “This is our 2nd year at Haven Hills Therapy Center, and we plan on coming for many more. My son has autism and struggles with socializing, communication, confidence and courage. He has a hard time trying new things and getting out of his comfort zone. He does not respond to a lot of people and with that he will shut down and not try new things.
Haven Hills has brought a new light to my son and has made these things achievable. Once we arrive, he is a completely different person. He lights up and knows that he can be himself (true self). We only see this side of him at home with just our family. When he is working with Alert, Robin and Sarah he is so comfortable that he accepts the direction and the encouragement that they give him. They push him out of that comfort zone and when they do, you can see the confidence and pride on his face. This is finally overflowing to his everyday life. They have given him something that no one else has ever achieved. There is just something about the love of a horse and the true spirit of a compassionate person that is good for my son’s soul.
